Server Pro 2016
Changes to TestOut Server Pro Courses

What’s happening with TestOut Server Pro?

The purpose of this page is to inform you about the recent changes and direction of TestOut Server Pro 2016 courses.

Impact

Microsoft has significantly changed the Server exam objectives for Server 2016. If you are currently using our Server Pro 2012 courseware, these changes will require you to update course descriptions, titles, outlines, and/or curriculum.

We have developed to following three courses that cover Microsoft Windows Server 2016:

To add these courses to your offering you must purchase the license associated with each course.

Background on Microsoft Server Exams

Server 2008

600 Series (70-640, 70-642, 70-643)

Microsoft built the objectives for the Server 2008, 600 level exams based on grouping similar content. For example, networking content was all grouped together, active directory was grouped together, and so on. TestOut courseware mapped to these same content groups.

Server 2012

400 Series (70-410, 70-411, 70-412)

The Server 2012 objectives were changed to reflect a certain skill level, instead of content. Microsoft determined that the Sever 2012 exams would test on beginner, intermediate, and advanced skills, while sharing content groups across the exams as illustrated to the right.

Server 2016

700 Series (70-740, 70-741, 70-742)

In a reversal of the 400 series, Microsoft changed the Server 2016 certifications exams to content grouping again, similar to the Server 2008 model as illustrated to the right.

TestOut strives to keep its courses up-to-date with the latest exam objectives from Microsoft. As the industry moves to MS Windows 2016 Server, it is our belief that academic courseware should be updated to support this move and to prepare students for current and future jobs that support Windows servers.
