I love the student discount. In fact, a lot of my peers at college complain about not being able to do labs from our books, since a lot of labs require admin rights, and we don't have these rights; we are power users. Also, we have a network monitoring software that blocks a lot of things, so that makes it even harder to do labs [from the books], and often a lot of labs are based on theory. LabSim CCNA training expands my skills-what I can do and be responsible for, specifically with networking, system administration, and switches.

The people explaining things in the videos have a good grasp and understanding of what they're talking about and convey it in an instructional way, so it's not just a presentation of facts. They show the process of how things should be done, and they don't skip parts. Then, the interactive labs apply what the videos discussed in the way they've shown you. The practice exams accurately reflect the information taught in the videos and labs.

LabSim helps considerably with developing fundamental skills. There are occasions in our MIS (management information systems) department when someone takes complete ownership of a role. LabSim helps us understand what we're working with.

I've been using LabSim to teach 6 classes so far (2 Network+ and 4 A+) at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA, and am planning to use the new version of A+ Essentials for 2 classes this Spring.

I have been trying to get another school that I teach at to use LabSim but the department management won't consider not having students get "real hands-on" experience tearing apart the school's computers (which obviously has its own set of problems!)

In order to assist my case at the school who is reluctant to consider LabSim, I have been surveying my existing classes that have used LabSim and over 95% of the 150+ students who have used LabSim for Network + and A + consider it better than using real computers. For one, the software simulations are exact replicas of a real software system (sometimes if a student gets distracted when using a software simulation he's not sure if he's in the simulation or the real thing!) Secondly, it lets the student review and/or complete Labs at home or office.

If you go to an instructor's lecture, you can't hit rewind or pause to go back and review what an instructor was saying. If you have to go to the bathroom, you miss it and can't get it back. But with LabSim, you can take breaks, go back and review, and watch the videos as many times as you want.

In college, we had study groups and shared notes, helped each other, and quizzed ourselves. We'd do the LabSim labs and be there to explain things to each other through the hands-on activities. Granted, people hate doing homework assignments, but no one hated TestOut.

In the past, I used standard textbooks to supplement LabSim training in my classes. I found the books completely unnecessary because LabSim is totally self-supporting.

I believe learning doesn't just happen from 10 to 11 AM while students are in the classroom. LabSim helps learning continue when students are home. "I just wanted to give you an update on my training experience so far since I purchased the TestOut [Library] package. I spent a total of 35 hours on the Network+ exam material (it says 40 but I was away from my computer once and was still logged in). I did not go back and review anything, nor did I take any notes during the training/simulations. I then took 1 practice exam and scored in the 800's, so I went 2 hours later and took the test. Passing was 720 and I got an 834.

Prior to starting the TestOut training for the Network+, I did review about 4 of the training videos from my CBT Nuggets account that I mentioned I had. The CBT Nuggets just didn't compare. The nuggets are so long that the chance of remembering anything after listening to someone for 30 minutes straight about complex concepts is pretty much a waste of time.

Also, prior to this I have had absolutely no networking experience.

Just thought I would let you know how it went and how much TestOut helped facilitate my passing of the Network+ exam. And you were right. I didn't need the Transcender or the Pass4Sure so I saved a few hundred bucks on that alone.

Thought this may help you get an understanding of how well the Network+ TestOut course compares with CBT Nuggets and how it enabled me with TestOut alone (no books either) to pass the exam with a good score.

The simulation challenges are so realistic that my colleague, who also teaches A+, was walking by one of the students and stopped him. He questioned as to why he was performing a task in the device manager that only an administrator has access to. It looked so real that he didn’t realize it was just a simulation. The students are getting critical thinking skills as they go through the logical thought processes that TestOut has set up in their software. You have to make the right step in the LabSim program to move through the crime scene investigation, which forces them to really learn. I have used some of the training materials from CBT and Train Signal as they have offerings that Testout doesn't but I can say without a shadow of doubt that the Testout offering is far better on a like for like course. Each video on TestOut is bite size usually not going over 10 minutes each compared to the others which has videos which can last up to 50 minutes at a time meaning that your attention has gone long before the video has finished. Add that to the fact that neither Train Signal or CBT save your progress, offer simulation, or practice exams, then I feel that the TestOut software is far superior.
